One of the best parts about staying at Navelencia Farms is that we’re not just surrounded by orange groves and open skies — we’re also a great home base for exploring some of California’s most iconic national parks. If you’re up for a little adventure, Yosemite National Park makes for an unforgettable day trip. Yes, you can absolutely do it in a single day, and we’ll show you how.
Here’s how to make the most of your Yosemite day trip and still be back at the farmhouse in time to enjoy a cool drink under the stars.
Getting There: The Scenic Route
From our farm in Reedley, Yosemite’s South Entrance (near Oakhurst) is about 90 miles away, or roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by car. You’ll want to leave early — around 6:30 or 7:00 AM is ideal. That way, you’ll have a full day to explore and still get back before it’s too late.
Directions:
- Head north on Reed Avenue and connect to CA-99 North.
- Take CA-41 North toward Oakhurst.
- Continue on CA-41 all the way to the South Entrance of Yosemite National Park.
If you want to grab breakfast or snacks along the way, Oakhurst has a few solid options. Erna’s Elderberry House (if you’re feeling fancy) or Sweetwater Steakhouse for a more casual bite.
Important Note:
You will need a park pass to enter Yosemite. At the time this was written a standard vehicle pass is $35 and is valid for seven days. You can purchase it at the gate or ahead of time online at recreation.gov. During peak times (like summer weekends or holidays), reservations may also be required for entry, so be sure to check ahead at nps.gov/yose for the most up-to-date information.
What to See in Yosemite in One Day
Yosemite is massive, over 1,100 square miles, so the key is to focus on a few highlights that give you the full experience without stretching yourself too thin. Here’s a great day trip itinerary that balances natural beauty with time management:
1. Tunnel View
As soon as you enter Yosemite Valley, make your way to Tunnel View. This overlook is one of the most iconic views in the park, with El Capitan on the left, Bridalveil Fall on the right, and Half Dome in the distance. It’s a perfect place for photos and only takes about 15 minutes to enjoy.
2. Yosemite Valley
Drive down into the valley and park at the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center area. From here, you can walk or bike to several nearby sites:
- Yosemite Falls (a short walk from the visitor center)
- El Capitan Meadow for watching climbers on the towering granite wall
- Sentinel Bridge for a classic reflection shot of Half Dome
If you’re visiting in spring or early summer, the waterfalls are at full power and trust us, they’re something to see.

3. Lunch Options
Pack a picnic from the farm or grab a quick bite at Degnan’s Kitchen or the Base Camp Eatery in the valley. Seating can be limited during peak season, so packing your own lunch is a nice way to enjoy a peaceful meal under the trees.
4. Glacier Point (Optional, Seasonal)
If Glacier Point Road is open (usually late spring through fall), consider heading up for an epic panoramic view of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and the High Sierra peaks. It’s about an hour’s drive from the valley and well worth the detour if you’ve got time. Just keep an eye on the clock, you’ll want to start heading back by late afternoon.
Heading Home to the Farm
After a full day of jaw-dropping scenery and crisp mountain air, you’ll likely be ready to unwind. Aim to leave Yosemite by 5:30 or 6:00 PM. That’ll put you back at Navelencia Farms around 8:00 to 8:30 PM, just in time to catch the last bit of sunset and settle in for a relaxed evening.
Want to make the return trip extra scenic? Take the same route (CA-41 South), but stop in Oakhurst or Fresno for dinner if you’re feeling hungry. South Gate Brewing Company in Oakhurst is a great post-hike dinner spot, or you can grab something simple in Fresno on the way.

Flying In? We’ve Got You Covered
If you’re visiting from out of state (or just want to skip the long drive from the Bay Area or LA), you’re in luck — Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) is just 30 minutes from the farm. It’s a convenient, low-stress option with rental cars available on-site, or accessible by Uber or Lyft, and it puts you close to not just Yosemite, but Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks too.
A Few Tips for the Road
- Check Park Conditions: Before you go, visit nps.gov/yose for road closures, weather updates, and entry requirements.
- Gas Up Early: There are no gas stations inside the park. Fill up in Oakhurst or Fresno before heading in.
- Pack Layers: Mornings can be chilly, even in summer. Layers and good walking shoes are a must.
- Charge Your Phone or Camera: You’ll take more photos than you think.
- Bring Your Park Pass or Buy Online: It saves time at the entrance gate and helps avoid any hiccups.
Back at the Farm
Once you’re home, Navelencia Farms will be just as peaceful as you left it. Sit out on the porch and breathe in the quiet. Stargaze if it’s clear, or curl up with a good book and a blanket. Our farmhouse is the perfect place to wind down after a day in the wild.
If you’ve got another day or two here, consider checking out Sequoia or Kings Canyon next — both are even closer than Yosemite and just as incredible in their own way.
Yosemite in a day? Absolutely doable. And the best part? You get to come back to a place that already feels like home.
