National Park Road Trip from Navelencia Farms: Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite

Staying at Navelencia Farms means you’re perfectly positioned between three of California’s best national parks, at least we think so, you can see them all in one unforgettable long weekend.

Here’s how to do it without the stress, with cozy nights spent at our peaceful farmhouse.

Day 1: Giants, Views, and Sunset in Sequoia National Park

Drive time from Navelencia Farms: About 1 hour to 3 hours
Best for: Giant trees, epic overlooks, beginner friendly hikes

Must-See Stops:

  • Giant Forest & General Sherman Tree
This is what most people come for, the largest tree on Earth by volume. The trail is short and paved, and walking among these ancient giants is a grounding experience. Don’t forget the Giant Forest Museum not far away.
  • Moro Rock
One of the best viewpoints in the entire park. Climb the stone stairway to the top for panoramic views of the Great Western Divide — it’s short but steep, and 100% worth it.
  • Tunnel Log & Crescent Meadow
Snap a photo driving under the famous fallen sequoia, then take the easy loop around Crescent Meadow. If you’re lucky, you might spot some deer or even a bear (from a safe distance).
  • As Time allows: Crystal Cave
You’ll want to get tickets before you enter the road for the cave and it’s only seasonally open. It’s a steep walk down to the cave, so make sure you’re up for the hike.

Tips:

  • Pack a cooler for a picnic lunch at Lodgepole or Crescent Meadow.
  • Arrive early to beat the crowds — especially in spring and summer.
  • Bring layers — it’s often 20+ degrees cooler up in the park than on the farm.

Return to the farmhouse in the evening, cook a great dinner, and stargaze from the backyard with zero light pollution. That’s the farm stay bonus.

Day 2: Rivers, Canyons, and Quiet Trails in Kings Canyon National Park

Drive time: About 1 hour 15 minutes
Best for: Fewer crowds, waterfalls, stunning canyon drives

Kings Canyon National Park is often overlooked — but we’re convinced it’s one of California’s hidden gems. It’s quieter, equally dramatic, and full of lush river scenery.

Must-See Stops:

  • General Grant Tree
Also known as the “Nation’s Christmas Tree.” It’s one of the larger trees in the world and just a short walk from the parking lot. This is near Grant Grove Village and there is a gift shop and restaurant that are open in the summer seasons.
  • Kings Canyon Scenic Byway (Highway 180)
One of the most beautiful drives in the state that winds down into the granite carved canyon with river views the whole way.
  • Zumwalt Meadow Trail
This 1.5-mile loop offers an easy stroll along the Kings River with views of sheer canyon walls, wildflowers, and crystal-clear water. Super peaceful.
  • Grizzly Falls
Right off the road, this waterfall is perfect for a quick photo stop or a snack break. There is a bathroom here as well.
  • Hume Lake (Optional)
Just 3 miles south of the road to Kings Canyon is Hume Lake, a beautiful lake created in the early logging days of the 1900’s, now home to a Christian Camp. It is seasonally open, and grab a milkshake in the summer and a burger at the snack shop, or get gas at the Hume Lake General Store which is one of the only areas between the National Forest and National Parks while you’re traveling.

Tips:

  • This park feels more relaxed than Sequoia with less rush, more breathing room.
  • Be careful around any rivers or waterways as it can be dangerous.
  • Check road openings before you go (some sections are seasonal).

Back at the farmhouse, watch the sun go down over the valley and rest well.

Day 3: Iconic Views and Waterfalls in Yosemite National Park

Drive time: About 3 hours (to Yosemite South Entrance)
Best for: Bucket list views, photography, waterfalls

Yosemite National Park is famous for a reason. Even if you just have one day, you can still experience a few of the most iconic spots, especially if you start early.

Must-See Stops:

  • Tunnel View
This classic overlook gives you a postcard view of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Falls all in one frame. It’s your “I’m really here” moment.
  • Yosemite Valley Floor Loop
Drive or bike this loop and stop at Yosemite Falls (spring is peak flow), Sentinel Bridge, and El Capitan Meadow. You can spot climbers on the rock walls with binoculars.
  • Lower Yosemite Falls Trail
A flat, easy walk to the base of the tallest waterfall in North America.
  • Glacier Point (seasonal)
If you have the time and it’s open, this viewpoint gives a panoramic look at Half Dome, Nevada Falls, and more. It’s a bit of a detour but totally worth it.

Tips:

  • Start by 6–7 a.m. for a full day.
  • Bring snacks, sunscreen, and patience as Yosemite will be busy.
  • If you’re coming in from Highway 41, Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is a great optional stop near the South Entrance. Allow extra time for this.

Head back in the evening for your final night at the farmhouse, tired in the best way and full of fresh air, views, and good memories.
